Follow the money – public spending and procurement in Greater Manchester (Open Data Manchester)

The value of public sector procurement within the UK exceeded £301 billion in 2016 and in the City of Manchester £445.6 million was spent with its top 300 suppliers in 2016/17 alone.

Greater Manchester is home to over 2.8 million people and with devolution, more control over how money is being spent rests locally.

Come and discover where this money goes, what procurement data is available for the region and find interesting and innovative ways to address local challenges.

This will be an opportunity to dig into the data, create new insight, network and start conversations about data availability, reuse and how data could be improved.

We will follow a ‘Treasure Hunt’ format developed by Global Integrity and explain how procurement and public spending open data is released by central government departments in the UK, and Greater Manchester. There will be opportunity to dig into transport, health, housing and many other areas of interest.

This event is a partnership between Open Data Manchester and Open Contracting Partnership.

The Open Contracting Partnership is a collaboration between government, business, civil society, and technologists to open up the documents and data behind government contracting and deal-making. Open Contracting works with 30 countries around the globe, and is keen to see Cities at the forefront of this movement. You can see our latest impact stories.
