Green Drinks Manchester January 2020

What next for the environmental movement in Manchester?

As the curtain is raised on another year, we’re meeting up to look ahead to 2020 and also thinking back to 2019.
Was 2019 really a turn of the tide, or have we passed the tipping point?

In many ways 2019 was a momentous year as climate change rose up the political agenda. Governments around the world rushed to declare the issue an emergency, due in no small part to the effective mobilisation of millions of concerned citizens (that’s all it takes, apparently). But actions incompatible with an emergency (e.g. the farce at Great Ancoats Street) suggest that the balance hasn’t swayed as much as many people were led to believe.

So what next?

Are the claims to be believed?

Do leaders really see the issue as an emergency?

We’ll be focusing on these questions and raising a glass to the year that’s been.

So come and chew the seitan fat as we close the door on 2019 and open up the new decade.
