From Richard Nixon to Richard Leese – how to get the most from interviews, in an ethical manner, and provide material for great stories
This workshop will cover the techniques and tricks for structuring an interview, including how to write and pose your questions to your interviewee, and how to establish a relationship with them. We will also cover your rights as a journalist while interviewing over the phone, on the street corner or when you are confronted with police who are illegally trying to stop you from doing your job.
With journalists increasingly targeted and under fire from politicians, the public and the police, what are our rights and how should we approach sensitive issues and public reporting on events and protests?
We’ll workshop these questions with group tasks, practical and topical examples educating you on your rights and the ethics of our role in reporting the truth.
Participants are also invited to ask questions as we work.
This workshop will cover:
– How to prepare and approach sources for an interview
– How to structure and conduct a great interview
– Journalistic ethics and code of practice
– Our rights as journalists and citizens
This course will be hosted by Meteor journalists Noora Mykkanen and Nick Prescott.
Tickets are £10 (or free for members) and book via Eventbrite.
