Join the Defund Fossil Fuels webinar (350.org)
Earlier this month, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) signed off a half a billion dollar loan to the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) company. This funding brings TAP one step closer to being built, but to go ahead the pipeline still needs more investment. Private banks are likely to fund TAP next — and unlike EBRD, those banks have branches on our high streets.
We’re ready with the next move. If we target these private banks effectively, we could cut off even more finance flowing to the project.
In the webinar, we’ll explore which banks have provided finance for the companies behind major coal and gas projects across Europe, reflect on previous bank campaigns against the Dakota Access Pipeline and look ahead to mobilisations in September.
The TAP project is bad news to people and climate. It’s fueling corrupt and oppressive regimes, trampling on the rights of farmers and communities, and locking Europe in to yet more dangerous fossil fuel infrastructure. Communities on the ground are already opposing the pipeline. Even now, Greek farmers affected by the pipeline’s construction are on hunger strike. Now we have an opportunity to strengthen them with our solidarity.
Learn more about how we can oppose new fossil fuels.
