Join Trafford Wildlife at Birch Moss Covert

We will continue our work on the new area of heather, which is growing well thanks to our continuing efforts. This involves removing small birch saplings, brambles, etc that are encroaching. We will also be “layering” some of the heather plants, to encourage further spread. Forks, spades and loppers would be useful.

You’ll be able to see how the heather has regenerated since the clearance began.

You will need gloves and preferably wellington boots. The working party will start at 10am and finish by 2pm, with a break for lunch around 12 , though of-course you can leave when you want. Please bring a packed lunch with you if you are staying for the whole session. The reserve is owned by Himor and has no normal public access.

More Info: Please come to the reserve from the Southern (Sinderland Lane) end, and not from the Isherwood Road direction. Man UTD have security gates at both ends and I will be at the Sinderland lane end to make sure there are no access problems. We can park on the left-hand side of Birch Road near the top of the reserve.

To let us know you are coming please inform us through the ‘Join Us’ page.
