Science not Silence – One Hour Silence (hosted by Extinction Rebellion Manchester)
On Thursday 10th October, to mark the three month anniversary of the City Council’s declaration of a climate emergency, our friends at Climate Emergency Manchester released a report about what action the council had taken.
The report was based on Freedom of Information Act requests and was titled ‘Dead Tortoise Society’. It made depressing reading. On almost half of the 23 elements in the declaration, there was no action. On several others there was very slow action. On the question of re-examining the 2038 target in an open and transparent process by the end of the year, the Council seems to have done less than nothing.
Join us for one hour of silence to raise awareness of the lack of action taken by Manchester City Council.
We will sit in silence wth our mouths taped and placards expressing our disappointment and despair.
Please make and bring placards expressing your frustration and XR symbols on flags, t-shirts and anything you can.
Family friendly event. No one expects children to be quiet for an hour. I will find it hard to be quiet for an hour but we will try. This event is open to everyone
