Switched On – Young People’s Energy Advice

Raising awareness and understanding on the importance of embracing energy efficiency for young people in Manchester.

Everyone one of us is picked up and thrown to the wolves when it comes to our first steps in finding our first new home and setting up an energy account.

Is this home energy efficient?
Will I be warm in the winter months?
Where do I start in saving money?
You’re an adult now and you’ve just got to get on and do this. But how many of us can say we got the advice and necessary help we needed when we started out on this journey?

The truth is that only a small fraction of us probably did. That’s a hard swallow for the next generation who can see the effects of climate change, are being told to save the planet and take action, but for some reason, not how. At a time when young people are truly becoming independent they need all the help they can get.

We want to tackle these issues in Manchester.

Citizens Advice ‘Switched on’ Project is funded by the Energy Saving Trust’s Energy Redress scheme and will provide energy workshops and 1-2-1 sessions for young people (16-25 yr olds) in order to help them adopt sustainable living and energy efficiency, as well as the support to improve their quality of everyday life.

The Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from one of our Young People’s energy ambassadors and learn;

How to be more energy efficient.
Switch energy suppliers.
Tips and tricks on how to keep your home warm during winter.
The one hour workshop will be followed by a 15 minute Q&A session with one of our young people’s energy ambassadors who lead the project.

From knowing the basics on how to set up an energy account and what you need to be energy efficient, how to switch suppliers for cheaper deals and the tip and tricks you can use to keep your home warm in winter – they’ll be there to answer any questions you may have.
