Sylvia Pankhurst’s Manchester: bike tour (Manchester Bike Tours)

A 5 mile guided cycle tour visiting places where Sylvia Pankhurst lived, studied and worked. Sylvia spent her childhood and young adult years in Manchester attending Manchester High School for Girls and Manchester School of Art.

We’ll visit the location of her first studio in the city centre where she produced some of the iconic designs that helped make the Women’s Social and Political Union so recognisable. Riding at a leisuerly pace on city roads, we’ll start with an introduction over coffee at Coffee Cranks Cafe in Alexandra Park (arrive at 11am for drinks, we’ll be setting off at 12noon).

We’ll finish the tour at Manchester City Art Gallery where there is currently an exhibition of some of Sylvia’s paintings of working women (with the option of riding back to Alex Park with us after seeing the exhibition)

Free tour – voluntary donations welcome 🙂

Please book online via Eventbrite.

PLEASE NOTE: This event is listed in our cycling events calendar for Greater Manchester. It is not organised by Manchester Friends of the Earth nor the Love Your Bike campaign and does not necessarily reflect their policies.
