The Fight for Our Buses! Film Launch & Discussion

Join Better Buses for Greater Manchester for the premiere of a new documentary by the Association of British Commuters.
The fight to bring Greater Manchester’s buses back under public control has had incredible support from both passengers and staff. Our petition to Andy Burnham recently hit 10,000 signatures, and a recent poll we commissioned showed 76% of Greater Manchester support the re-regulation of our buses.

But we need your help to win better buses for our communities. It’s the biggest opportunity we’ve had to transform our bus network in 30 years – and if we win the fight in Greater Manchester it will create a precedent for the entire country.

Join us for the premiere of Association of British Commuter’s new documentary about our campaign, followed by a Q&A discussion and a chance to get involved in local action near you.

Join Emily Yates, co-founder Association of British Commuters, Luke Raikes, Senior Researcher at IPPR North, Mike Hughes, passenger and experienced accessibility campaigner, and John Boughton, Unite regional officer for a discussion chaired by Pascale Robinson from Better Buses. There will be snacks, children are welcome and you will have a chance to meet other and join local action for your buses!

UK Buses in Crisis – more about the documentary:

Association of British Commuters is a grassroots campaign group that has been taking on the fragmented and failing rail industry through protests, legal actions and investigations. Their next big project will discuss the effect of transport poverty nationwide, with a documentary video series looking at new powers to bring buses back under public control after 30 years of privatisation.

Part One addresses Greater Manchester’s buses crisis, featuring views from passengers, activists, and economists across the city. The documentary includes an interview with the MP Daniel Zeichner, who shares his thoughts on the biggest opportunity yet to regulate Greater Manchester’s buses, which could set a precedent for the entire country.
