The Future of Eco-Cities (hosted by MMU Environment Team)

By 2050, 70% of the global population are expected to live in urban areas. The more we understand about how cities operate, the better we can plan for a sustainable future. As a University, we need to think innovatively about the actions we must take to be a Zero Carbon University by 2038 and contribute to Manchester’s own target.

This interactive lecture will challenge current thinking of cities by drawing from alternative future planning approaches. What will cities look like in the future? What would a Zero Carbon campus look like? How can citizens have a healthy and happy life? Collectively, we will produce creative planning suggestions for a green, zero carbon future, which truly balance the natural, human and built environment. By the end of the session, you will have new ideas about how we might live within the boundaries which humanity is setting for itself in this time of global change.
