We invite you to the People’s Park BBQ! Come rain or shine we’ll be cooking up some tasty eats.
Our aim is to keep using the “park” every weekend! Let’s reclaim this public owned space and the CITY.

Bring your own picnic snacks
Bring your own disposable BBQs
Come & meet your neighbours
Bring your brollies
Bring your kids, and dogs

We decided on a BBQ as we know most people love food and feel its good way to bring local residents together to discuss ideas.

What could we do with this space that benefits our entire community?

What’s the problem?
Currently Manchester City Council plans to turn the old Central Retail Park on Great Ancoats Street into a 440 space car park with the application going to planning at the end of August, we have to make our voice heard. This is a 10.5 acre space, half the size of Whitworth Park. There will around 1000 cars moving in and out onto already busy Great Ancoats Street. This will increase pollution including known carcinogens such as Nitrogen Dioxide, in a city of appalling childhood asthma rates and one which consistently ranks amongst the worst air quality in Europe. This space is right next door to a Primary School. This seems in total contradiction of Manchester’s campaign for clean air when Manchester City Council has declared a Climate Emergency.

What do we propose?
Instead, in this Climate Emergency, we propose that a green space is installed. There are already a number of public ideas and solutions for this gathered by Northern Quarter Residents Forum.Create a green, community space for families, residents and visitors. Plant trees to soak up pollution and create a city centre haven.
