Tree-LC in Bolton

At this event we will be doing some ‘tree-LC’ at the Smithills Estate in Bolton.

Whether you give 1 day, 1 hour or 1 week, by becoming a Citizen Forester, you’re spreading the word about the City of Trees movement and helping us to achieve our vision of bringing more woodland back into positive management across Greater Manchester.

At this session we will be doing some ‘tree-LC’ to newly planted trees which make up the Greater Manchester part of the Northern Forest. The trees that have been planted were done so with bamboo canes and plastic spiral guards to protect them from damage from rabbits. During the Spring and summer grass has grown over the area and up into the tubes, and it may choke the new trees. So the work is to lift/unspiral the tubes pull up the grass and refit the tubes. This is accompanied by further tree maintenance works at the site, working with the long-term woodland Trust volunteers.

Session takes place 10am – 3pm; gloves, tools and equipment provided. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing. Long trousers are recommended due to nettles. Light refreshments are provided.

Meeting point: Brand new visitor car park off Walker Fold Road, BL1 7PT
