XRNorth MASS Action – #13daysofcrisis (hosted by Extinction Rebellion North)
THERE’S NO MORE TIME TO WASTE
Nine climate tipping points are now active.
This is a mass extinction event.
Time is up – it is now or never.
Rebel for life.
RISE UP
We demand that the climate and ecological emergency is finally taken seriously.
We will bring non-violent direct action to an institution that, up until now, has failed in its duty.
Expect peaceful disruption of the powers that deceive us.
Exact target to be announced on the day.
REBEL MEETING POINT
Meet at the Emmeline Pankhurst statue (St Peters Square) and follow the pied piper…
Be there at 8am on Friday the 13th.
Bring everything you need to spend 2-6+ hours outside and money for public transport (day ticket £5)
HOW TO HELP
Share this event and invite your local group, friends, families, colleagues.
We need volunteers for the following roles: de-escalators, wellbeing, social media.
AGs encouraged to cause non-violent disruption throughout the day
Young people and inexperienced protesters will join experienced rebels. #EverybodyNow come together and hit the streets. There really is no time to waste.
DEMAND 1: TELL THE TRUTH
DEMAND 2: ACT NOW
DEMAND 3: BEYOND POLITICS

Nine active tipping points:
1. Arctic sea ice
2. Greenland ice sheet
3. Boreal forests
4. Permafrost
5. Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation
6. Amazon rainforest
7. Warm-water corals
8. West Antarctic Ice Sheet
9. Parts of East Antarctica
The collapse of major ice sheets on Greenland, West Antarctica and part of East Antarctica would commit the world to around 10 metres of irreversible sea-level rise. Reducing emissions could slow this process, allowing more time for low-lying populations to move.
The rainforests, permafrost and boreal forests are examples of biosphere tipping points that if crossed result in the release of additional greenhouse gases amplifying warming.
Despite most countries having signed the Paris Agreement, pledging to keep global warming well below 2°C, current national emissions pledges—even if they are met—would lead to 3°C of warming.
Although future tipping points and the interplay between them is difficult to predict, the scientists argue:
“If damaging tipping cascades can occur and a global tipping cannot be ruled out, then this is an existential threat to civilization. No amount of economic cost-benefit analysis is going to help us. We need to change our approach to the climate problem.”
