Monday 1st Oct: Fringe meeting:   Enough is enough? Transformational economics for a fairer society.

Our economic model is being challenged with the crises of the world financial system, rising debt and unbridled resource consumption. Meanwhile the gap between rich and poor widens. What does a sustainable economy look like? Could a minimum living wage, a maximum wage, and a shorter working week deliver fairness and wellbeing? What other changes could be made to the structure of the economy to redress the balance?

  • Cllr Sue Murphy (Deputy Leader, Manchester City Council)
  • Simon Danczuk MP
  • Neil McInroy (Director, Centre for Local Economic Strategies)
  • Paul Routledge (Daily Mirror, invited)
  • Chaired by Jane Thomas (Friends of the Earth)

7.30 – 8.30pm. The Palace Hotel, Director’s Suite – open to the public, all welcome

Mon 1st & Tue 2nd Oct:  Bee Cause campaign stunt.

To coincide with the Labour Party conference, Friends of the Earth are planning a bee stunt on the streets with the theme ‘the Great British Countryside brought to you by Bees.’  The central part of this theme is to hand out apples with ‘pollinated by bees’ stickers on them, along with a little leaflet which briefly describes how apple prices would go up without bees and also gives key information about our campaign.

Times and location to be confirmed.  Please contact pete@manchesterfoe.org.uk if you would like to be involved and can help with the stunts.
