Have your say on Manchester’s Local Plan

take action

Manchester City Council is preparing its Local Plan – a plan for how the city will develop over the next 15 to 20 years.

The council is still pursuing a vision of rapid growth, with development concentrated in the city centre and around Manchester Airport.

The Local Plan has an objective to “support the growth of Manchester Airport as the North of England’s principal international gateway” but does not indicate how this can be aligned  with the Manchester City Council Climate Change Action plan which commits to achieving a “reduction in aviation emissions from Manchester Airport which is in line with the Paris Agreement and the findings of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Research.”

But that’s not going to deliver rapid cuts in carbon emissions, create a healthier environment or make communities more resilient to future pandemics.

We need a new vision fit for the 21st century, with 20-minute neighbourhoods, more space for nature and active travel, and an end to airport expansion.

The first stage of the Local Plan consultation closed at 5pm on Friday 1st May. Read a copy of our consultation response.
