Email Action: Once-in-a-Generation Opportunity – Dutch Style Cycle Lanes for Greater Manchester

[This email action was archived when the consultation ended]

The Opportunity

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and Manchester City Council Oxford Road 300(MCC) are consulting on significant changes to several key roads in Manchester. The proposals include removing private cars off most of Oxford Road and introducing good quality, separated ‘Dutch-style’ cycle lanes. We need to show support for the plans.

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make key roads in the city centre genuinely cycling friendly, to show what can be done in Manchester, and to create an example that can become a template for a Greater Manchester wide cycle network. The proposed changes include:

  • a) Oxford Road Corridor (from Whitworth Park to Oxford Street)
  • b) Portland Street (Cross City)

The outline proposals, including maps are available and the consultation is open till 5th July. Love Your Bike is encouraging people to respond to the consultation.

Our View

Oxford Road Cycle Lane PlanWe welcome the principle in the Oxford Road corridor plans to introduce ‘Dutch-style’ cycle lanes (separated from the traffic).

However, the designs can be improved and we want to see changes to the proposals for Portland Street and Upper Brook Street/Lloyd Street.

Take Action

Please respond to the consultation and we have created this email action to make responding as simple as possible. Whether you cycle, would like to cycle, or simply want to live in a city that takes sustainability seriously, please respond.
