Ask GM Pension Fund to divest from fossil fuels
The Greater Manchester Pension Fund (GMPF) is the biggest local authority pension fund in the country. It is also one of the biggest investors in fossil fuels, with over £1 billion invested in companies like Shell and BP.
Not only are coal, oil and gas bad news for the climate, they are also risky investments – fossil fuel companies will find the majority of their reserves ‘unburnable‘ if we are to keep global warming below 2 degrees C.
The GMPF consultation on its Statement of Investment Principles closed on Friday 4th September.
Almost 400 people sent a response calling on the GMPF to divest from fossil fuels and invest in clean energy – thank you!
We’ll be launching our divestment campaign on Monday 21st September – let us know if you’d like to get involved.
