Manchester Conference: It’s Time to Act on Climate Change

news release

On Saturday 10th October, Manchester will host “Time to Act”, a day-long climate conference which sets the scene for international climate negotiations in Paris in December. [1]

The Time to Act conference [2], which runs from 10.30am to 4.30pm at Methodist Central Hall on Oldham Street, features:

  • High profile speakers including Nick Dearden (Global Justice Now), John Hilary (War on Want), George Marshall (COIN), Kate Pickett (author of “The Spirit Level”) and Asad Rehman (Friends of the Earth)
  • Video contributions from renowned activists Vandana Shiva in India and Jacqui Patterson from NAACP in the US
  • Workshops on a wide range of climate related topics, from energy, transport and food to inequality, migration and racism.

Ali Abbas, one of the organisers of the Time to Act conference, said:

“Extreme weather events like hurricanes, floods and droughts are increasing in frequency, and more and more people’s lives are being disrupted by climate change. It’s time to act.

“We’d like to give everyone a chance to find out about the causes and impacts of climate change, what can be done about it, and how we can all help to make these solutions a reality.

“Whether it’s putting pressure on politicians by joining protests or reducing your carbon footprint by growing your own food, we hope people will be inspired to work together to tackle climate change and build a better world for ourselves and future generations.”

Tickets for the conference can be booked online at bit.ly/timetoactmcr-tickets. Tickets are free for unwaged/unemployed, £2 for low waged, £5 for waged, and £10 for those who wish to make an additional donation. Doors open at 10am.
