More cycle support needed

CYCLISTS have called upon council bosses to upgrade Manchester’s bike lane system.

A report by the Manchester Friends of the Earth group highlights a number of bicycle “blackspots” and urges new investment to encourage more people to travel to work using pedal-power. The green group surveyed hundreds of cyclists who complained many drivers were simply ignoring lanes set aside for cycles and frequently behave aggressively to bike users.

They also say that traffic calming measure such as speed bumps and chicanes should feature gaps to allow cyclists to pass through unimpeded.
