Oxford Road closure south-bound (8th August – 4th September)

Temporary working arrangements on Oxford Road will be commencing next week. Between the 8th August and the 4th September, Oxford Road d will be subject to one-way running between Hathersage Rd and Booth St, allowing only north-bound movements towards the city centre.

South-bound general traffic will be diverted on to Upper Brook Street. Due to site constraints, and in the interests of safety, a southbound diversion route for cyclists is also required and will be signed via Lloyd Street / Cambridge Street. Cyclists travelling out of the city centre will be prompted to leave Oxford Road at Cavendish St, with repeat signs further south at Booth St West.

The reason for the one-way working is to provide the space needed to construct the new carriageway layout, including the new segregated cycle facilities. Although all efforts have been made to keep this route open to cycle traffic, during construction south-bound cyclists cannot be accommodated safely due to the very limited space available. The site team will aim to programme the works during this period to enable southbound cyclists to be brought back on to Oxford Rd as soon as possible using the new facilities.
