Solar campaign hots up

take action

The campaign to save the solar feed-in tariff is really starting to hot up.  With support for solar energy slashed by more than half from Monday 12 December, the pressure has been mounting on the Government to reconsider its plans.

Yesterday, Friends of the Earth took the fight to the top, delivering a 17,000 strong petition to David Cameron as part of the Final Demand campaign.

Today, we organised a photo call with a few of the local organisations who have signed our joint statement on the solar feed-in tariff.  We were joined outside the Town Hall by Sir Richard Leese (Leader of Manchester City Council), Todd Holden (Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce) and Jonathan Atkinson (Carbon Co-op).

And tomorrow, Friends of the Earth is going to the High Court to request permission to launch a legal challenge against the Government with regard to its consultation process, which inexplicably ends 11 days after the cut-off date they’re consulting on.

With rumours emerging of a second consultation on one of our key asks, a community feed-in tariff, it seems there may yet be some hope that the Government will see the light and put us back on the path to a brighter, low-carbon future.

Take Action!

If you haven’t already done so, please sign our Final Demand petition, calling on David Cameron not to axe support for clean British energy produced by communities, councils, business and householders, and to hold a public inquiry into the power and influence of the Big Six energy companies over consumers and politicians.
