TTIP: Transatlantic Trade deal must not dilute environmental safeguards, warn MPs

news release

Reacting to a new report published today by a committee of MPs warning that the Trans-Atlantic Trade & Investment Partnership could weaken UK and EU environmental safeguards, Friends of the Earth Trade Campaigner Sam Lowe, who gave oral evidence to the MPs, said: “This report confirms that fears about the potential impact of TTIP on our environment are justified.

“At a time of planetary emergency, it is reprehensible that the UK government continues to promote a trade deal that threatens a regulatory race to the bottom and undermines Europe-wide efforts to protect our environment, health and the climate.

“Ministers must stop burying their head in the sand and take mounting and widespread concerns about TTIP seriously.”
